Two individuals were arrested early Sunday morning after police witnessed a man drive a driver’s education car into the gate of a local business and found two other abandoned vehicles near Marion Senior High School.
According to a statement from the Marion Police Department, officers responded to General Dynamics on Brunswick Lane in reference to a possible intoxicated man trespassing on the property. Upon arrival, an officer observed the man reverse the driver’s education car he was driving and ram it into the gate at a General Dynamics entrance.
Other officers arrived and Joshua Edward Banks was taken into custody without further incident. Upon investigation, officers determined that Banks had wrecked his own vehicle on an embankment behind the high school’s football field. A fence had stopped it from going into the stadium. Banks then took the driver’s education car, the statement said, and had mistaken the gate at General Dynamics for the exit of the lot.
Banks was charged with vehicle theft, driving under the influence, felony destruction of property, misdemeanor destruction of property, and trespassing on school property after dark.
During the same period of time, another officer found a third vehicle sitting in a ditch near the high school. Its driver, Nicole Paige Mobley was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence.
