Floyd County High School's boys' varsity basketball game had a three-win week, highlighted by Cayden Sutphin scoring his 1,000th career point. His milestone came in Wednesday's home victory of Alleghany.

Floyd opened with a 19-11 first quarter lead. Midway through the second quarter, Sutphin reached the 1,000 point mark on a jump shot that made the score 25-13. Floyd went on to a 32-25 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, Sutphin added a pair of three-pointers that led to a 53-48 margin. The Buffs had a final margin of 78-66.

Floyd started the week with a 93-67 win over James River at Buchanan Tuesday, January 15. After a close first half, the Buffaloes pulled away in the final two quarters.

The Knights went ahead 18-15 in the first quarter. The Buffaloes were able to get within 39-38 by halftime.

In the third quarter, Floyd used a 24-11 run to go in front 62-50. The Buffs extended the lead with a 31-17 edge in the fourth.

The Buffaloes closed out the week with a 61-42 win over Giles at Floyd Friday, January 18. The game was tight for three quarters, with Floyd blanking the Spartans in the final period.

Giles led 11-7 in the first quarter. The Buffs tied the game 11-11 on a basket by Cayden Sutphin, but Giles had a 12-0 run and closed the half up 28-18.

Floyd had five three-pointers in the third and went up 34-33 as Kameron Harris had a steal and converted two free throws. The Buffs got the final points of the third as Jared Nichols scored with four seconds remaining for a 43-42 lead.

Harris had three baskets and Sutphin had two as Floyd had a 16-0 fourth quarter edge.
