Wythe County’s hoops stars will join forces with standouts from Tazewell, Bland, Pulaski and Grayson counties and the city of Galax to take on all-stars from Montgomery, Floyd, Giles and Carroll counties and the city of Radford on March 17.

All-star girls are set to take the court at 6 p.m. at Pulaski High School, with the boys’ game to follow. This is the second year New River Valley athletes will compete in an all-star basketball game.

The event is being conducted by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes of the New River Valley as an outreach and fundraiser. Admission is $5. Concessions will be available.

The games will be in a West vs. East format.

The East squad for the boys will include players from Giles, Auburn, Floyd, Eastern Montgomery, Christiansburg, Blacksburg, Carroll County and Radford high schools and Dayspring Christian Academy in Blacksburg. The East girls’ team will be the same schools with the addition of players from Pulaski High School.

The West boys’ team will include players from Richlands, Tazewell, Graham, Bland, Narrows, Rural Retreat, George Wythe, Fort Chiswell, Pulaski, Grayson County and Galax high schools. The girls’ team will be the same schools except for Pulaski, which will play for the East, to help even the roster numbers.

Six of the participating players have scored more than 1,000 points in their careers, and one has reached the 2,000-point mark.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is the largest sports ministry in the world. Staff work regionally in areas to see its core values of Integrity, Serving, Teamwork, and Excellence embedded on sports teams. New River Valley FCA covers the counties and cities of Tazewell, Bland, Giles, Wythe, Pulaski, Radford, Montgomery, Grayson, Galax, Carroll and Floyd. Almost every school in these divisions will have a senior playing in one of the two games. The coaches for these teams are current head varsity or junior varsity coaches in the region.
