It looked for a while there that Rural Retreat was going to pull out a win over county rival George Wythe.

But the looks were deceiving.

The Maroons battled back from a 7-4 deficit in the bottom of the fourth, chipping away at the Indian lead, to claim an eight-inning, one run victory, besting Rural Retreat 8-7.

Walker Nowers led the Maroons’ 10-hit onslaught with a pair of hits, including a crucial home run. Andrew East and Avery Mabe each had a pair of hits, too.

Nowers worked five innings on the mound, keeping things locked down with 12 strikeouts. Dale Cline picked up four strikeouts for George Wythe.

Wesley Gilman and Hunter Lemmon worked the hill for the Indians. Gilman dealt nine strikeouts.
