Emory & Henry Wasps take fourth straight win, 15-11

Former Lebanon High School star Ben Sexton went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs as Emory & Henry took a 15-11 win Tuesday over non-conference foe Ferrum.

The Wasps (4-1) had 17 hits as they earned their fourth straight win.

Daulton Horne (Virginia High) and Andrew Francisco (Abingdon) drove in two runs apiece.

E&H women win first-ever national tourney game

Paced by a 17-point, eight-rebound effort by former Abingdon High School star Taylor Blevins, Emory & Henry won in its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III women’s basketball tournament Friday, prevailing 66-55 over Roger Williams in a first-round contest played in Grantham, Pennsylvania.

Kara Stafford (Sullivan East) added 11 points for the Wasps (23-6), who also got 10 points and six rebounds from Sydney McKinney (Union).

Chloe Harris (John Battle) added four points and a game-high six assists off the bench for E&H.

Roger Williams (23-6) built a 20-17 lead after the first quarter and led by as many as seven points early in the second quarter, but the Wasps closed out the opening half on a 15-3 run and never trailed again.


SATURDAY, MARCH 3

COLLEGE BASEBALL

E&H Wasps sweep Southern Virginia in doubleheader

Emory & Henry opened its home schedule by taking a doubleheader sweep on Saturday against Southern Virginia, 6-3 and 12-9.

Eli Straw stroked a two-run home run in the bottom of the first in the opener for the Wasps (6-1) as Gavin Felty (John Battle) had a seven-inning complete game for the win with nine strikeouts while scattering six hits.

In the second game, E&H’s Ben Sexton (Lebanon) ripped a walk-off, three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to break a 9-9 tie.

J.T. Agosto earned the win in relief.
