ABINGDON, Va. — Washington County’s Board of Supervisors passed a resolution Tuesday in support of three state legislators seeking state funding for a road connecting The Pinnacle, off U.S. Highway 11W in Bristol, Tennessee, to U.S. Highway 58 in Washington County, Virginia.

ABINGDON, Va. — Gambling bills, the state budget, the opioid crisis and funding education were the topics touched on by Southwest Virginia lawmakers during a legislative breakfast Dec. 3 in Abingdon.

Perched on a shelf inside Roy Evans’ office in the Smyth County Courthouse are two of the attorney’s most recently collected accolades.

The first is a gavel given by the Virginia Association of Commonwealth’s Attorneys when he was elected its president last month. The second is a glass award celebrating his 30 years of service as Commonwealth’s Attorney for Smyth County.

State Sen. Bill Stanley, R-Franklin County, has lit the fuse to a stick of old legal dynamite he’s found lying around. Now we’re just waiting to see whether it turns out to be a dud or something politically explosive.
