Less than 10 years ago, the school was listed as one of the Most Endangered Historic Sites in Virginia. Recently, its new owners revealed that it may soon be restored both in structure and to the heart of its original essence – education.
The Blue Ridge Discovery Center (BRDC) was awarded a $500,000 Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) grant earlier this month. The money will be used by the center to renovate the historic Konnarock Training School into a permanent location for the center, which currently is in Mouth of Wilson.
After nine years of operation without a physical location, the Blue Ridge Discovery Center in Mouth of Wilson has been given its first permanent home.
