As expected Dr. Chris Stacy is the Superintendent of Schools in Tazewell County.

Stacy was approved during the May 22 school board meeting to deal with the county’s insurance carriers. Stacy had been named Deputy Superintendent at the May regular school board meeting. His appointment as superintendent takes effect July 1.

Stacy is a county native who grew up in Springville and lives in the Bluefield area. He has served as a teacher, principal, director of secondary education and assistant superintendent in Tazewell County.

He served as superintendent in Blandd County before returning to Tazewell County as assistant superintendent. School Board Chairman David Woodard called Stacy a leader in southwest Virginia’s public education landscape.

Woodard said he is a parent as well as a school board member and is proud to know the future of his children’s education rests in Stacy’s hands.
