BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. Donnelly Northington Adams, 80, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 3, 2013. "Don" was born June 12, 1933, in Mountain city, Tenn., the son of the late John Edgar and Lucie Wilson Adams. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Willa Hensley Adams; brother Richard Adams (Carole) of Salem, Ore.; and four children, daughters, Marcia Ashley (Wade) of Blountville, Diane Compton (Jeff) of Palm Beach, Fla., Nicole Adams of Blountville, and son, Michael Adams of Blountville; also survived by two grandchildren, Kevin Martin and Kourtney Baker, both of Blountville; three great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Brent, Payton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Don graduated from Johnson County High School in 1951, and attended Tennessee Tech University. He earned an AS degree from Long Beach College, and a BSIE from East Tennessee State University, with additional MBA coursework also completed at ETSU. He spent his early engineering career at US Electrical Motors in Southern California, followed by many years in Engineering at Raytheon in Bristol, as well as well head of Globe Aviation Security at Tri-Cities Airport. Don was an active member of Avoca Christian Church, serving as Elder and Sunday school teacher for many years. He also served on the board of Sullivan County 911. His love of maps and travel, keen interest in road/bridge construction, and inquisitive nature will long be remembered, along with his gentle smile and infectious laugh. The funeral service will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, September 8, 2013, at Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Bob Robinson Officiating. The family will receive friends 1 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service. Bristol Fire Department will provide Honor Guard processional to Glenwood Cemetery Mausoleum for committal and entombment 4 p.m.. Pallbearers will be James Price, Andy Reynolds, Kevin Martin, Hal Cole, Michael Adams and Ike Lowry. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe Robinson and Jim Fields. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Avoca Christian Church, in memory of Don Adams.
