William "Bill" Monroe Melvin, 74, of Pearisburg, Va., peacefully transitioned from this earth on Thursday, April 11, 2019, at Montgomery Lewis Gale Hospital. On September 8, 1944, he was born and raised in the Mechanicsburg community of Bland, Va. Bill graduated in the 1962 class of Bland High School. He worked at Dublin Garment, Flow Laborious, drove a tractor trailer, Renee Composites and retired from the Town of Pearisburg. Bill was always the joker in the family. There was always a smile on your face when he came around. He loved to fish and take his boat to Claytor Lake. He enjoyed hunting and making sure his garden was planted every year. He was an avid CB Communicator Operator and his handle was "Lead Foot". Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Edward & Edith Durham Melvin, of Bland; and his mother-in-law, Virginia Trenar of Pearisburg. Bill is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda Trenar Melvin; his daughter and son-in-law, Saprina and Duke Lucas, of Pembroke; his son, Steven Melvin of Pearisburg; his brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Connie Melvin, of Bland; his sisters and brother-in-law, Patty and Bobby Chandler, of Bland, Nancy Melvin of Wytheville, and Kathy Boyd of Bland; three grandchildren, which he cherished, Dustin and Sara McVey, of Pearisburg, Dylan and Kristin McVey, of Eggleston, and Brittany and Ethan Howell, of Christiansburg; three great-grandchildren, Emma, Owen, and Kairi; several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and in-laws; and three special friends, Taz Tickle, David Rice, and Gary Flinchum. Funeral services were held Monday, April 15, 2019, at 1 p.m. at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, White Gate, with Jordan Midkiff and Junior Midkiff officiating. Burial followed in Birchlawn Burial Park, Inc. The family received friends on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at A.
