MARION, Va. Goye Emerson Reeves Jr., 85, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 9, 2018, at the Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie, Va. Mr. Reeves was born in Chilhowie, Va. on December 25, 1932. He is preceded in death by his parents, Goye E. Reeves Sr. and Clair Sexton Reeves; infant brother, Ralph Reeves; and brothers in law, Frank Sage and Vance Bise. Goye served his country in the U.S. Army, then retiring with over 42 years of service from Harwood Manufacturing. After retirement, he worked many years with the Bank of Marion as a courier. He was a dedicated Christian and a faithful member at Gethsemane Baptist Church where he also served as an usher. He was a hardworking, simple, honest man that loved his family. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Most of all he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be missed by all. He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Eller Reeves of Marion; son, Gary Reeves and wife, Sharie; daughter, Tammy McKinnon and husband, Steve, all of Abingdon; grandchildren, Cary Lampkins and husband, Justin, Meghann Moore and husband, Chris, and Matthew McKinnon; great-grandchildren, Brax and Banx Lampkins, and Sadie and Bailey Moore; step grandchildren, Rachel Wilson and Sarah Macomber and husband, Sean; sisters, Mildred Sage of Fla., Ruby Bise of Saltville, and Virginia "Vee" Widener and husband, Jerry, of Chilhowie; brother, Charles "Doug" Reeves of S.C.; and several nieces, nephews, and other loving church family and friends also survive. The family would like to express a special Thanks to the nurses and staff at Valley Heath Care & to Hospice of SWVA for the care given to Mr. Reeves and the family. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 11, 2018, from the Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with Pastor Ryan Cox officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday evening at the funeral home chapel. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 12, 2018, at Middle Fork Cemetery in Chilhowie with full military honors rendered by the Francis Marion V.F.W. Post 4667.
