Curtis Byrd, age 83, of Cedar Bluff, Va., passed away on Monday, July 1, 2019, at Tazewell Community Hospital in Tazewell, Va. He was born on January 3, 1936, the son of the late Israel and Jennie Belle Webb Byrd. Curtis enjoyed listening to music and talking to people. He never met a stranger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Chester, Linkous, and Clyde Byrd; one son, Gregory Byrd; and one son-in-law, Carl Sisk. He is survived by, his children, Carolyn Byrd of Sevierville, Tenn., Jenny Sisk of Cedar Bluff, Va., Crystal Cheek and husband, Roland, of Staley, N.C., and Doris Shoffner and husband, Garry, of Asheboro, N.C.; seven grandchildren, April Colley and husband, Michael Brandon, Carl "C.J." Sisk and fiancée, Veronica, Amanda Revels and husband, Josh, Nicholas Headen and wife, Elizabeth, Jessica Shoffner, Zane Cheek, and Zander Cheek; seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The family received friends from 6 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff, Va. Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Charlie Monk and Pastor David Lowe officiating. Graveside Services were held Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Greenhills Memory Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum # 4. Family and friends served as pallbearers. Casey-Short VFW Post 9640 conducted Military Graveside Rites. Family and friends met at the cemetery for the graveside service.
