MARION, Va. Roger Lee Petty, age 77, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2019, at the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Va. Roger was born in Marion, Va., to the late Ray and Mabel Dean Petty. He is also preceded in death by two half-brothers Charles Petty and R.M. Petty. Roger was owner and operator of Petty's Body Shop, and worked in the autobody industry for 50+ years. He was a very outgoing and well-liked man. He never seemed to meet a stranger and certainly never had an issue talking with anyone. He had such a love for old cars that he was dedicated to going and participating in all the local cruise-ins he could. He also enjoyed fishing and his special pet companions. He is survived by his four children, Bobby Lee Petty and wife, Vicky, Rhonda Petty, Kenny Petty and wife, Lori, all of Marion, and Pam Petty of Wytheville; grandchildren Hunter Propst and wife, Katelyn, Keegan and Kristyn Petty, and Lexi and Collin Petty; great-granddaughter, Audree Propst; brother, Harold Petty and wife, Barbara of Wake Forest, N.C.; sister, Charlotte Pickle of Salem; special loving companion of many years Liz Parks, her daughter, Ellen Prater and husband, David, and their son, Gage; several nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends to include special friends Bobby, Mickey, & Les Whitt. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff and nurses at the Smyth County Cancer Center in Marion and his special caregivers Sandra Catalan Learner, Zack Learner, and Sabrina Rose. Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2019, from the Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with Pastor Guy Testerman and Pastor Mike Sage officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m., prior to the service on Thursday. The family asks in honor of Roger if you have an old car bring it to the visitation. There will be an In Loving Memory Cruise-IN for Roger throughout the visitation. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105, or to the Smyth County Humane Society, P.O.Box 1124, Marion, VA, 24354.
