Chilhowie High School students, faculty and community members gave the varsity football team a rousing send-off Friday afternoon as they head to Salem on Saturday for the VHSL state championship game.

Mayor Gary Heninger presented the team with a check for $500 from the town toward travel expenses and he presented a framed resolution to the school declaring Saturday, Dec. 8, as Chilhowie Warrior Football Day.

The team members got to dress their coaches as snowmen in a competition and were celebrated by the cheerleaders and the marching band.

They held up a banner proclaiming “This isn’t just a game. It isn’t just football. This is all of us. This is unfinished business.”

Fan who can’t attend the Saturday championship battle between the 14-0 Warriors and the 12-1 Riverheads can watch the game live online with a subscription at www.NFHSnetwork.com/vhsl

The network is a joint venture between the NFHS, its member associations – including the VHSL – and PlayOn! Sports.
