The weather finally cooperated enough on graduation night for Chilhowie High School to conduct the ceremony outdoors on Friday for the first time in years. A few raindrops fell midway through but commencement continued for the 77 members of the Class of 2018.

Honor graduates speaking to their classmates included: Claudia Elizabeth Crewey (valedictorian), Marina Leigh Gross (valedictorian), Taylor Braylin Gilbert (salutatorian), Paige Christin Kegley (salutatorian), Alexandra Jessica Nava (salutatorian), Jacob Delaney Shumate (salutatorian), Katlin Abigail Haywood, Laura Elizabeth Martin and William Michael Rush.

The Chilhowie High School Band offered a special performance, and the band and choir led the audience in the CHS Alma Mater.

Principal Rocky Baker said it was a successful conclusion to his first year leading the school and wished the graduates all the best in their future endeavors. He presented diplomas assisted by Kelly Russell and Lisa Farmer.
