A little more than 300 Appalachian Power customers in Floyd County lost power around midnight due to a downed wire, Teresa Hall, communications consultant with the company, told the Press this morning.

“Line mechanics are putting the wire back up now, and power is expected to be back on by 11 a.m.,” she said. “The pole is in an area inaccessible by truck, so an employee had to climb the pole the old-fashioned way to make the repair.”

Hall said the report she was reading didn’t state that the wire fell due to the high winds that are prevalent today, but that it is certainly a possibility.

Also, residents in the Tuggles Gap area have just now reported outages.
