Ann Bower, American Legion, Department of Virginia Sixth District Commander, is raising money to take a group of approximately 30 veterans to the American Legion Centennial Gala March 23 in Richmond.

The Gala, being held at the Marriott, will include a special recognition of the World War II veterans.

Bower is hoping to raise $100-$140 per veteran to cover tickets, expenses and bus costs.

On Friday, January 18, Bower is having a silent auction fundraiser at the Hotel Floyd’s Buffalo Mountain Conference Room from 1 to 7 p.m.

Silent auction items are being donated by local merchants. A World War I centennial coin is included.

Also at the event there will 50/50 giveaway tickets for a drawing to be held on March 10; you do not have to be present to win.

An adult bicycle will also be given away.

Bower will accept donations at any time.
