BRISTOL, Va.—One person has been detained following a stabbing near the Sam's Club at Exit 7.

Washington County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Darrell Dickenson said the 911 caller told authorities that a person stopped him and advised he had been stabbed. 

An ambulance was called to the scene and transported the man to Bristol Regional Medical Center.

The stabbing incident, which occurred near the Sam's Club off Lee Highway, remains under investigation. The business is located in Washington County, just outside of Bristol city limits.

Dickenson said one person has been taken into custody as the investigation continues.

Sheriff Fred Newman said the person was stabbed in the chest, but his condition is not currently known.
