Curtis J. Sexton Sr., age 77, of Wytheville, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at his home. Curt was born on February 11, 1943, to the late George Wythe and Ada Wright Sexton in Crockett, Va. Curtis was a lifetime member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Bland. Curtis was a United States Army Veteran having served from 1964 to 1967 in Vietnam where he received the Purple Heart, he was also a Past Commander for the Bland V.F.W. Post #7969. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jean Sexton of Wytheville; son, Curtis Sexton Jr. of Fredericksburg; twin brother and sister-in-law, Olen B. and Sue Sexton of Bland; brother, Wythe L. Sexton of Upper Marlboro, Md.; step sisters, Sally Edwards and Ann Stiltner both of Bland; foster daughter, Katelyn Cantrell of King George, Va.; three nieces and spouses, Kayla and Thomas Hull of Wytheville, Benga Atwell of Bastian, Olena and Jody Lambert of Bland; nephew, Robert Sexton of Japan; great nieces and nephew, Braiden Hull, Isabella Atwell and J.D. Atwell; cousins, Rachel and Roberta Sharitz of Crockett. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2020, at the Grubb Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Cline officiating. Interment followed at 3 p.m. in the Virginia Veteran's Cemetery in Dublin where Military Rite's were conducted by the Bland V.F.W. Post #7969. Evelyn Kate Myers, age 87, formerly of Ingalls Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at Azalealand Nursing Home in Savannah, Georgia. Evelyn was born in Smyth County, Virginia to the late Washington Jacob Lee and Mary Inez Blevins Shupe. She was educated in Smyth County Schools and was a graduate of Leonard's Beautician School in Clifton Forge. She dedicated her life to being the "CEO" of the loving home she created for her family and cherished her roles as wife, mother, and perhaps most of all, "Nanny" to her five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Evelyn was a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Clifton Forge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hascue Coleman Myers; brothers, Frank, Ernest, David and Donald Shupe; and sisters, Ruby Martin, Edith Blankenbeckler, Dorothy Hicks and infan,t Ella Maude Shupe. Survivors include her daughter, Donna Liakos, and husband, Robbie, and her son, Dana Myers, and wife, Leslie, all of Savannah, Georgia; five grandchildren, Erik Furry, Heather Furry, Jessica Cooper, Mallory Smith and Andrew Myers; 11 great-grandchildren, Katelynn Furry, Sebastian Furry, Eva Furry, Brynn Godfrey, Jonathan Cooper, Grace Cooper, Lucy Smith, Margaret Smith, Emma Myers, Jacob Myers and Taylor Myers; several nieces, nephews, and other loving family members; and a host of friends including her special friends, Jane Pinchard and Donna Fox. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2020, at 12 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with the Reverend Lynn Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. Pallbearers will be Erik Furry, Rob Liakos, Dana Myers, Tom Beirne, Tommy Slusser, Brandon Nicely, and Ralph Tucker. Robert Allen Shults, age 50, of Atlanta, Ga., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at his home surrounded by family and friends, after a long and courageous struggle with brain cancer. Robert was born in Roanoke and spent his childhood in Salem and Marion. He graduated from Marion Senior High School in 1987, earned a tennis scholarship at the Virginia Military Institute, where he graduated in 1991. He pursued a career in the computer industry and worked for INTEL Corporation for 21 years. Robert married Claire Furches in 2006 and had one son, Logan Robert Shults, age 6. He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted step-mother, Anne Washburn Shults. Robert is survived by his dear wife and son, Claire and Logan; father, Robert McFarland Shults of Marion; sisters, Sally Elizabeth Shults of Virginia Beach, Margaret McFarland Shults Scimone (Stephen) of Burlington, Vermont, Kristen Elizabeth Leaman (Brian) of Marion, and Kelly Anne Surber of Marion. Mildred Lee Robertson, age 88, of Rural Retreat, Va., passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2020, surrounded by family. She was born in Grayson County, Va. on September 21, 1931, the daughter of the late Clyde Foster Robertson and Lura Ritta Vaught Robertson. Mildred was preceded in death by a sister, Willie Evans. She is survived by sisters, Thelma Gray of Bassett, Va., Frances Brown of Roanoke, Va., Linda Nye of Wytheville, Va.; brothers, Frank Robertson of San Antonio, Texas, Bob Robertson of Rural Retreat; several nieces, nephews and friends also survive. SOUTHPORT, N.C./ GLADE SPRING, Va. Jewell Mayree Little Osborne, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at the Elmcroft of Southport Nursing Facility in Southport, N.C. She was born, August 28, 1927 in Tazewell, Va. to Fred and Essie (Caudill) Little. Along with her parents, she is also preceded in death by husband, Lee Osborne; two brothers, Fred (Bud) Little, Charles Little; and a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Osborne. Jewell is survived by sons, Frederick Osborne, Brookwood Ala., Michael Osborne and wife, Judy (Edmiston) Osborne of Southport, N.C.; and a sister-in-law, Nelia Little of Abingdon, Va. Jewell had six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren Jewell spent the first years of her childhood in the coal fields in SWVA where her father was a miner, they then moved to a small farm in Ashe County, N.C. where she grew up. After graduation from high school, she moved to Chilhowie, Va., where she worked in the hosiery mill for many years. After she and Lee were married, they built their home in Glade Spring, Va. to raise their two boys. Jewell started working at Johnston Memorial Hospital in 1974 and retired after 17 years in 1991. Jewell loved her home, raising a garden, canning, crocheting, going to church and visiting with her many friends. Due to health reasons she then moved to Greensboro, N.C. in 2014 into an assisted living facility, and then to Southport, N.C. in June 2018 where she remained until her death. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2020, from the Bradley's Funeral Chapel in Chilhowie with the Rev. Timothy E. Bird officiating. Interment will follow in the Haw Orchard Cemetery in Grayson County. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday morning at the funeral chapel. SUGAR GROVE, Va. Robert Lee Bright, age 58, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2020, in Moline, Ill. He was born in Detroit, Mich. and was preceded in death by his mother, Ollie Bright and his sisters, Dawn Michelle Barkley and Carol Ann Ramey Blackwell. He was a forklift operator in East Moline, Ill. He loved the outdoors and just having fun. Survivors include his son, Shawn House of Memphis, Tenn.; his sister, Deborah Lundbald of Sugar Grove, Va.; brother, Mark Bright of Sugar Grove, Va.; three grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other loving family members also survive. TROUTDALE, Va. Laura Harrar Grubb, age 91, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2020, at Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, Virginia surrounded by her family. Laura was born in Delaware on August 10, 1928, to the late Benjamin Elliott Harrar and Helen Vandever Harrar and was preceded in death by her brothers, B. Elliott Harrar, Sam Harrar, John Francis Harrar; half-brother, Henry Armstrong; son, David Grubb. She was a registered nurse, having started her career in Wilmington, Delaware and then furthering her education in Washington, D.C. at the Children's Hospital and in Philadelphia. Laura was a member of the Wharf Hill United Methodist Church in Sugar Grove, Va. and had a strong Christian faith. She enjoyed sewing for her family and gardening. In her later years she loved spending time at the Lifetime Wellness Center in Marion and working jigsaw puzzles. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and playing board games, especially Parcheesi. She is survived by her husband of over 66 years, Jay Grubb; two daughters, Diane Beasom and husband, Jeff of Windemere, Fla. and Donna Melton and husband, Mike of Cranberry Township, Pa.; grandchildren, Tyler Beasom, Jessica Beasom, Katie Melton, Sarah Melton, Emily Melton; several nieces and nephews also survive.
