Abingdon Veterans Park Foundation

The Abingdon Veterans Park Foundation has installed approximately 60 headstones in the veterans park featuring the names of Washington County veterans killed from the Korean War onward. The display paints a visual picture of the locals who sacrificed their lives in service of the United States. The headstones also aim to emphasize the loss that America has endured in order to maintain freedom.

This year, the park board only had enough funds to recognize those from Korea forward, but the foundation hopes to add memorials from World War II and prior conflicts next year, if sponsors can be obtained. Acknowledging the dead from World War II would more than double the number killed from the county.
