BRISTOL, Va. — A Bristol Virginia police officer was involved in a two-vehicle crash Thursday near the Valero gas station on Valley Drive.

Bristol Virginia Capt. Maynard Ratcliff said the officer, Thomas Dula, was traveling along Old Abingdon Highway on his way to an emergency call on Portsmouth Avenue when he collided with another vehicle turning off Texas Avenue.

The front of the officer’s vehicle was severely damaged. The other car landed across the road from the gas station along Texas Avenue.

Ratcliff said that both the officer and the driver of the other car, Thomas Caldwell, of Bristol, Tennessee, were transported to the hospital for examination. He did not believe either suffered serious injuries.

Dula had a sobriety test, which Ratcliff said is the department’s policy.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Ratcliff said Thursday afternoon that no one had been charged.
