ABINGDON, Va. — Nearly 300 traffic and criminal violations were issued during a traffic enforcement operation earlier this month on Interstate 81, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

The department held ACE “Aggressive Criminal Enforcement” during the week of June 10. Charges placed during the event included reckless driving, speeding, driving suspended, no operator’s license and criminal narcotics charges, the Sheriff’s Office said.

“This project proved to be extremely successful with the possibility of continuing the projects on a monthly basis,” Sheriff Fred Newman said. “Our goal is to ensure motorist safety in Washington County.”
