The Floyd County School Board has appointed Anthony “Tony” Morisco for the vacant School Board seat. Morisco will serve out the remaining term of the seat vacated by Maria "Faye" Nichols. The Locust Grove district seat will be filled by election in November for a four-year term to begin 01/01/2020.

The Board met Wednesday, May 1 in an adjourned meeting to make an appointment for the seat. Four individuals submitted letters of interest and were interviewed by the School Board in a closed session.

Morisco has a Bachelor of Science degree from Dowling College and a Master of Science degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Radford University. A retired engineer and manager, Morisco also taught in vocational education at Floyd County High School. He is a U.S. Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran, a former member of the Floyd County Volunteer Fire Dept., Locust Grove Station, and a member of the Roanoke County Fire Dept., Bent Mountain Station. He is also a former State of Virginia Emergency Medical Technician instructor.
