Details for CITIZEN TELEPHONE
ATTENTION RESIDENTS OF FLOYD COUNTY CONSTRUCTION UPDATE In January, we shared information that unknown contractors were working in Floyd County obtaining easements and possibly constructing fiber. Those identities are now known. The fiber construction along Route 221 toward Roanoke is NOT Citizens nor its contractors. From publicly available sources, this project is as follows: “Facebook is planning to start construction this year on 275 miles of high-capacity fiber cable through West Virginia as part of an approximately 600-mile “long-haul” route to connect major data centers in Ashburn, Virginia, and Columbus, Ohio.” Sourcewww.wvmetronews.com. Their fiber construction will span most of Route 221 through Floyd County and Route 8 to Christiansburg. This project is like the gas pipeline project in the region or like an interstate highway with no exits or entrance ramps, it is bypassing all homes and businesses. The primary contractor for the project is a company called FiberLight. We are very concerned about damage to our facilities throughout the route, and we have already met with their representatives a few times regarding damages that have already occurred. If you have issues or concerns regarding the work that these contractors are doing, please let us know and we will give you a contact name and number to call. In addition, AEP contractors are placing aerial fiber throughout Floyd County to connect their substations. This work poses no risk to our facilities. We are equipping all of our contractors with vehicle signage with Citizens’ logo on them. This way you will know if any work being performed is for Citizens or not. We care about you and the communities we serve.
