The George Wythe varsity softball team has played well during its early season games and Head Coach Bobby Bandrimer has relied on several returning players to provide the spark.
He said senior returner Makenzie Kirk at first base has been on of the team’s hitting leaders in the early going. Junior Brandi Blessing returns at shortstop and provides a lot of leadership in the infield.
Also back is senior Allison Phillips in center field along with sophomore Chelsey Hodge at catcher.
Rhetta Jackson, a junior, is the team’s main pitcher, and the coach said she has pitched well and has also hit well.
He predicted that Patrick Henry will be the team to beat this season in the Hogoheegee District with everyone else having a shot a finishing in the top two.
He said his team’s goal is “to compete in the district, play hard, pull off a few upsets and try to make the regionals.”
