Lacey Price, a senior at George Wythe High School, signed a scholarship last week to play basketball at Virginia Intermont College.
Virginia Intermont College Women’s Basketball Coach Jaclyn Dickens said among the things she liked best about Price is that she is “very competitive and defends the post well. She works hard on the boards and can score inside or hit with a short jumper.”
Dickens is hopeful that Price will see playing time soon. “We need her competitiveness and her will to rebound that I think she brings to our team.”
George Wythe Girls’ Basketball Head Coach Arthur Johnson said that Price has “been a big reason for the success the team has had for four years. She’s done well. She’s going to be a hard kid to replace. Her rebounding is her strength.”
Price averaged about 15 points and nine rebounds per game this past season.
Price said she chose Virginia Intermont College because it had a “nice campus, the people are friendly and it’s close to home.”
She hasn’t yet decided on what she will major in at VIC. Price said some of her fondest memories playing on the GW team was sharing the court with her friend and fellow senior, Ashley Buckhannon. The pair has played on the varsity team for the past four years.
