Fort Chiswell loses heartbreaker to Grayson CountyAfter winning the opening round of the Coppinger Tournament in dramatic fashion, the Fort Chiswell varsity baseball team dropped its next two tourney games to AA Tazewell 13-1 and Oak Hill, W.Va., 8-2 before returning to Mountain Empire District competition.
The George Wythe Maroons traveled to Glade Spring Thursday night and defeated the Patrick Henry Rebels 7-6 in a nine inning Hogoheegee District baseball marathon.

GW Lady Maroons defeat Rural Retreat 2-0 in soccerAfter a scoreless first half, the George Wythe Lady Maroons scored twice in the second half to defeat the Rural Retreat Lady Indians 2-0 in a Hogoheegee District girls’ soccer game played Tuesday afternoon at GWHS.

Johnson retires as coach, teacherAfter serving the past 12 years as the George Wythe High School girls’ basketball coach and after 33 years of teaching, Arthur Johnson recently announced that he will retire at the end of this school year.

Kelby Dove signs to play soccer at Bluefield CollegeGeorge Wythe High School senior Kelby Dove signed a scholarship last week to attend and play soccer at Bluefield College.
Lacey Price, a senior at George Wythe High School, signed a scholarship last week to play basketball at Virginia Intermont College.

GW Maroons bump Bears 15-2The George Wythe Maroons varsity baseball team hosted the Bland County Bears last Monday afternoon and earned their first win of the season by a score of 15-2 in a non-district contest.
Donnie Pruitt, the winningest football coach in George Wythe High School history, is retiring.
