After suffering through two months of severe drought conditions, Wythe County skies opened up late last week, dumping 5.23 inches on the county in a three-day period.
A pedestrian killed Sunday night on Chapman Road had not been identified as of Monday, according to Virginia State Police. The female was walking in the middle of the road, Sgt. M.T. Conroy said, when she was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
The countdown to Election Day 2007 is under way at the Wythe County General Registrar’s Office. The deadline for applying for absentee ballots is Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 4:30 p.m. and the last day to vote by absentee ballot in person is Saturday, Nov. 3, with the office open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
After meeting for the second time this month, county grand jurors have returned even more criminal indictments against local and out-of-state individuals.
Now that they’ve been indicted, the defendants will stand trial in Wythe County Circuit Court.
The two factions stared each other down, with just a sliver of ground between them.
