A survivor’s storyMiracles do occur. Just ask Jack and Lora Morgan.
“I’m a walking, breathing miracle,” said Jack Morgan, who lives in the Grapefield community of Bland County. “By all accounts, I should be dead.”
A mother who gives one son to the military is a hero in her own right.
Add in a second child and you’ve got a woman worth saluting.
Three sons in the military?
Gene Horney and Maggie Poole have plenty of experience dealing with boisterous groups.
As a school bus driver and a substitute teacher, respectively, Horney and Poole will bring an ability to handle difficult situations to their new roles as members of the Wythe County Board of Supervisors after both were elected to their first terms last week.

ELECTION RESULTS: Wythe County voters head to pollsSomeone forgot to tell Wythe County voters that turnout was expected to be low this election. And the voters were, for the most part, kind to incumbents. County wide, 45 percent of registered voters, about 7,730, cast ballots.

Man cleared of sex chargesA female juvenile is facing criminal charges after falsely accusing her father of sexually molesting her. A petition is being sought for the girl by the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Sheriff Doug King, the girl made the allegations on Oct. 6. The Wythe County Department of Social Services was called to assist with the interview and following investigation.
The girl’s dad, King said, denied the claims and agreed to a polygraph test. The results showed he was telling the truth, the sheriff noted.
