Couple charged in robberyRural Retreat residents caught in Bland County
Although Eddie Yonce’s retirement as postmaster is bringing an end to a century-long tradition of brick-and-mortar postal service in Cripple Creek, residents of the area shouldn’t see a substantial change in their available mail services.
For the first time in 36 years, Eddie Yonce woke up on Friday with only one job.
Yonce, 63, who has served the dual roles as Cripple Creek postmaster and store owner for nearly four decades, retired Thursday from the U.S. Postal Service.
Separate fires destroyed two Wythe County homes Sunday. One rekindled early Monday morning bringing crews and equipment back to the scene.
According to Wytheville Fire Chief Ronnie King, firefighters responded to a call around 6:50 p.m. Sunday at 2522 Grayson Turnpike Road (U.S. 21 south). They were assisted by members of the Speedwell Volunteer Fire Department.
The Wytheville Sheetz will officially open for business Thursday. The 5,000 square-foot gas station/restaurant/convenience store/carwash is located at 1340 N. Fourth St., across from the Wytheville Commons shopping center.
