Wreck claims teen’s lifeChilhowie High School English teacher Phyllis McMurray always has her seniors write a valedictory speech before graduation. This year, she recalled, Alexander Charles Cole Blevins wrote about his plans to go to college, get a career, a wife, and a house. Blevins, 17, graduated June 8, but this Sunday afternoon he was killed in a fatal car wreck.

Snapshots of wildlife on the ATKeeping track of the vast wildlife activity surrounding the 2,175-mile-long Appalachian Trail is a gargantuan task.
A tractor-trailer wrecked near Exit 47 at Marion just before 9 a.m. Tuesday, injuring its driver and blocking southbound traffic for hours. At noon, traffic was backed up to the Groseclose vicinity.
Around 3 p.m., the teenager lost control of his 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier, hit an embankment and was ejected from the car. He wasn’t wearing his seat belt, according to Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. M.T. Conroy.
