Election Day was a day of tight wins, narrow victories and, in one unopposed case, 100 percent majorities.
The landslides victories, however, were far from par for the course in Tazewell Counties municipal elections.
Richlands was more typical of the day.

Bernard Lankford has just one picture of his late father. It’s nearly 50 years old and was clipped from a newspaper before his death in 1962.

The 56-year-old Bristol Tennessee man said he has a couple of his dad’s old badges, patches and various trinkets, but most of what remains are memories.

But that will change soon.

For at least 30 years by one estimate, people have tossed tires, appliances, household trash and other refuse down a slope of Nebo Mountain overlooking the beautiful Crawfish Valley in northeastern Smyth County. The resulting cascade of trash below the mountain road was the result of behaviors that starkly contrast to efforts to preserve the roadless scenic and wild qualities of the valley below.
