The allure of antique automobiles draws hundreds of people to car shows across the country. The fascination with classic design and body structure is evident among owners and spectators.
The 16th Annual Ceres Ruritan Club Car Show was no exception. Saturday’s event at the Bland Fairgrounds boasted 67 entries and a crowd of viewers.
“We had approximately 30 new entries this year,” stated Lorin Hanshew, organizer of the car show. “We would have had more but there was a car show in Princeton for the Children’s Miracle Network on the same day. That probably hurt our attendance.”
Brandon Anders shouldn’t have any trouble relating to high school students in Bland County.
It wasn’t too long ago that he was one of them.

Former professor accused of abuse convicted on reduced chargesA former Bluefield College professor accused of sexually abusing a juvenile was convicted of reduced charges on Tuesday.
George Craig Flowers had originally been accused of two felonies, but those charges were amended to misdemeanors during what was supposed to be his preliminary hearing in Bland County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
Devout recyclers in the Bland area will no longer have to store their recyclables for a month or drive all the way to Bastian to drop them off.
According to Public Works Director Rodney Ratliff, those who recycle cardboard, aluminum, plastic or newspapers can now take the items to the Bland County Fairgrounds where the county’s second recycling collection trailer has been placed.
