Grand jury returns indictmentsCriminal cases ranging from attempted murder to perjury will now go to trial following a July 23 grand jury session in Bland.
Meeting behind closed doors, the jurors listened to allegations before returning indictments against the accused.
It will now be up to a judge or jury to decide if the defendants are guilty or not guilty.
It’s lights out on the old convoluted attendance policy at Bland County’s high schools.

Ceres native honored in MarylandAs a young girl growing up in Ceres, Hazel Waddell Sparks never imagined the path her life would take. Last month she was honored as a Harford County Living Treasure by the Harford County Council in Maryland.
A grant to develop a 22-acre industrial park has been awarded to the Bland County Board of Supervisors and the Economic Development Authority. The $200,000 is from the Virginia Indemnification and Community Revitalization for site development at Commerce Park.
Students at Rocky Gap High School will be greeted by a new leader when they return to school.
