A Bland County man has been charged in connection with a Thursday evening traffic fatality on U.S. 52 in Wythe County.
Virginia State Police Trooper J.G. Armstrong arrested Melvin Chadwick Compton of Bland late Friday night.

Bland County man faces felony, misdemeanor

A 49-year-old Bland man became Wythe County’s fourth fatality since May. Stanley Joel Tickle died at the scene of a single-vehicle crash on Thursday evening on U.S. 52.
According to Sgt. M.T. Conroy of the Virginia State Police, Tickle was a passenger in a 1997 Ford Explorer operated by his cousin whom police declined to identify. He was thrown from the vehicle, which was traveling north on Route 52, 2.2 miles north of Virginia 717.
