County declares local emergency

Severe drought conditions have prompted the Bland County Board of Supervisors to declare a state of local emergency. All open air burning is now prohibited and conserving water is recommended.
An emergency was declared Oct. 4 and will remain in effect until further notice. The resolution was signed by John C. Thompson, director of emergency services and vice chairman of the Bland County Board of Supervisors; and Jonathan D. Sweet, county administrator and deputy director and emergency services coordinator.
