Noah’s angels

Though simple in appearance, their meaning is significant. The small laminated paper angels with magnetic backing were made by Pamela Lambert’s first-graders at Bland Elementary School as a reminder of fellow student, Noah Taylor, who will undergo extensive medical treatments.
“We decided we wanted to do something to help Noah,” Lambert stated. “We chose angels to remind us that angels are watching over him.”
The 6-year-old Hollybrook resident was diagnosed with scoliosis, a disorder that causes an abnormal curve of the spine. He is facing surgery to correct the problem but will spend two months in traction at the Shriner’s Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., before the operation.
Before their Thanksgiving break from school, Lambert’s 18 students each made eight angels. They took them home and offered the magnets to family and friends for a donation toward Noah’s traveling expenses.
“If they didn’t have any money,” Lambert said, “the kids could put the angel magnets on the refrigerator to remind them of Noah.”
According to her, the Noah Angel Jar in the classroom has collected nearly $700. One of her students donated all the money he received for his birthday.
Lambert and the class were assisted by aide Debbie Davis in making the magnetic angels. Some are doing more.
Noah will leave for Missouri later this month. He and his family, including parents, Eldridge and Missy Taylor, will be away for some time.
“Although Noah will be absent for a couple of months,” Lambert pointed out, “I wanted the kids to know angels will be watching over him and that he will be OK.”
Noah is the grandson of Wallace and Lucy French of Hollybrook. His paternal grandmother is Marie Taylor of Max Meadows.
To help with the added costs of travel and lodging for the Taylors, relatives and friends are hosting a benefit for the family Wednesday, Dec. 2, at the Hollybrook Community Center beginning at 5 p.m. Cost of the soup and sandwich meal will be by donation.
