Newcomers get local seats

Local voters followed the trend that saw a Republican sweep for statewide offices. Voters also picked a newcomer for local races for Supervisor, School Board and Town Council.
Republican Bob McDonnell, the former Attorney General, defeated Democrat Creigh Deeds by a wide margin to win the Governor’s office. The two were opponents in the 2005 Attorney General race.
Republican Bill Bolling defeated Democrat Jody Wagner for the Lt. Governor seat, and Republican Ken Cuccinelli outpolled Democrat Steve Shannon for Attorney General.
Incumbent Republcan Charles Poindexter defeated Independent/Green candidate David Witcher in the Delegate race for the 9th District.
In the contested Supervisor race for the open seat Courthouse District, Republican Case Clinger defeated Independent Mike Maslaney.
In the contested School Board race for the Court House District, Linda King defeated incumbent Howard Conduff.
In the Town Council races, four candidates vied for two positions. Incumbent Bruce Turner was reelected and will be joined by newcomer Karen Agnew Bingham. Ross Miller and Dennis Wagner were also on the ballot.
Three candidates were elected without opposition: Fred Gerald for the Indian Valley Supervisor position, Doug Phillips for Indian Valley School Board representative, and Will Griffin as Mayor.
