Appy League RoundupDanville’s bid to hold onto a 2 1/2 game lead in the Appalachian League East Division was derailed by rain on Monday, July 23. The Braves were leading Kingsport 4-0 when the contest was suspended in the second inning. That set a pattern for Appalachian games throughout the wet week ahead. In other Monday games, Johnson City shut out Elizabethton 3-0 in a game that was barely official when it was called after 5 1/2 innings. Burlington doubled up Princeton 6-3, keeping the Devil Rays in the East Division cellar and Greeneville and Bristol split a doubleheader with the Astros winning the opener 8-1 and the White Sox taking a 6-0 victory in the nightcap.
Ten names have been added to the 2007 “300 Club” at Richlands High School.
BLUEFIELD- The Bluefield Orioles just couldn’t make a 6-2 advantage hold up last Thursday as the visiting Bristol White Sox used a balanced performance by four different pitchers and some long ball hits to take an 8-6 Appalachian League baseball victory at Bowen Field.
