The frustrations of golf mixed with its joys last week for Chris Dillow as he played in his first PGA Tour event.
Dillow, a Bland native, will be entering his junior season competing for Radford University’s golf team. He tuned up for his upcoming season with an appearance at golf’s top level.
The Wytheville Community Center hosted its first Rock the Wall climbing competition on Aug. 11.

The eighth annual Virginia’s New River Trail Challenge, a unique athletic competition, will be held in New River Trail State Park Saturday, Sept. 15. Entries are available by mail and online at http://www.dcr.virginia.gov. Entries must be postmarked by Aug. 31.
Competitors bike 40 miles, canoe 12 miles and run 13.1 miles along Southwestern Virginia’s 57-mile-long New River Trail State Park. The race is presented by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation.

This will be the first Ladies Night at Wythe Raceway and the stands are expected to be full as the ladies get treated to an entire program of racing action headlined with the Exit 54 Exxon Late Model Division.
