Rural Retreat routs PanthersThe Rural Retreat Indians improved their record to 6-1 Friday night by routing the Northwood Panthers 59-7 in a Hogoheegee District football game played at Community Stadium.
The win also allowed the Indians to remain tied for first place in the district with George Wythe and Chilhowie, all with 2-0 district slates.
The Fort Chiswell Pioneers scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter for a come-from-behind 35-32 victory over the Pocahontas Indians in a Mountain Empire District football game played Friday night at the Fort.
George Wythe, behind the rushing attack led by Larry McCoy defeated the Holston Cavaliers 42-0 in a Hogoheegee District game played Friday night in Damascus.
The Maroons struck quickly after forcing Holston to punt. In two plays George Wythe covered 47 yards to strike pay dirt. McCoy scampered 21 yards for the first score.
