The 2007 Appalachian League baseball season got off to a soggy start on Tuesday, June 19 when rain prevented a scheduled start for six of the ten league teams.
Emory & Henry College has two players on the second team of an all-state softball squad.
The extra day’s wait for the Bluefi eld Orioles baseball season to start proved fruitful for Bluefi eld fans as they watched their team take both ends of a doubleheader against visiting Bristol last Wednesday evening at Bowen Field.
Appalachian League baseball fans eager to kick off Bluefi eld’s 50th year in the league had to wait a little longer than expected for the 2007 season to start, but at least got to see an opening day ceremony dedicated to one of the baseball team’s most loyal supporters on Tuesday, June 19.
Richlands capitalized on nine walks, three errors and just four hits to grab a 12-0 shutout victory over Lebanon last Saturday to stay alive in the District 11 Little League 10-11-year-olds All- Star baseball tournament at Flanary Field.
Richlands and Clinch River reversed roles in Sunday’s game in the District 11 10-11 year-olds All-Star Little League baseball tournament at Flanary Field.
There were only two teams participating in the District 11 Little League All-Star 10- 11 year-old softball tournament at the Flanary Field complex in Richlands forcing the Lady Blues to play Honaker in consecutive games last weekend in the double elimination format. Richlands gave it a very good effort but were just no match for the Lady Tigers as the Blues suffered two straight shutouts. They lost a 10-0 contest on Saturday and returned Sunday to face the same team, suffering an 11-0 defeat there.

APPALACHIAN LEAGUE ROUNDUP: Danville drills Johnson CityLeadoff hitter Cole Miles drove in six runs to lead the Danville Braves to a 15-3 Appalachian League victory over the Johnson City Cardinals on Monday night.
Johnson City made nine errors, including three by shortstop Dognnt Bolivar. Danville put the game away with an eight-run fourth inning.
