While Chautauqua participants were preparing for a big opening day, cyclists gathered early Saturday morning to participate in the 6th annual Big Walker Century Ride.

Decked out in their tennis shoes, tank tops and toothy grins, approximately 30 girls turned out at Rocky Gap schools on Saturday to learn how to jump, twist and shout their way to becoming the cheerleaders of tomorrow.

Prior to the Group A state girls’ doubles championship tennis match at Radford University on June 13 that featured Bland County players Grace Sarver and Kirby Mustard, Bears’ coach Ashleigh Beasley referred to Gate City opponents Tori Bowen and Morgan Taylor as ‘the victims.’
