Outlet mall to lose two storesFort Chiswell Outlets is losing two more of its retail stores this month. The Dress Barn is closing Saturday, Dec. 20, while Van Heusen Factory Store 211 is going out of business Sunday, Dec. 28.
School Board awaits word on Kaine’s budget recommendations
Warrants have been issued for a second fugitive suspect in Monday’s home invasion and killing of James Brown and the serious woundings of his wife, Connie Brown, their daughter, Jennifer Brown, and her boyfriend, James Bland.
Travis Ray Hester will spend 17 years in prison for killing Belle LeAnn Hester, his 11-month old daughter, last summer. Smyth County Circuit Court judge Isaac Freeman sentenced Hester Friday morning to 20 years with three suspended and three years’ probation to follow.
Authorities have identified the body recovered from the remains of a house that burned in Saltville Sunday. Saltville Police Chief Steve Surber said Johnny Olinger, 53, died in the fire that consumed his home at 215 W. Main St.
