The Mountain Empire Pilots Association Fly-in is on final approach for a Sept. 28 landing at the airport in Groseclose. The last arrangements for the arrival of several special aircraft are in place, according to Curtis Pennington. The event will be open from 1 to 5 p.m.

$1 million bond set

A $1 million bond has been set for a Richlands physician charged with rape.
District Judge Jack S. Hurley Jr. set the bond for 65-year-old Roy Gomez Sept. 16. Hurley established the bond after viewing DNA evidence submitted by the Commonwealth.
In addition to the secured bond, the court ruled that Gomez would surrender his passport, have no contact with the victim or witnesses, go on home electronic monitoring and only travel to and from work and to meet with his attorneys.
