While on vacation with his family at Fort Fisher, N.C., Jason Dreyzehner and his friend Curt McConnell were body boarding about 150 yards off the beach.
Hurricane Dennis was getting closer, making the waves rear up, perfect for body boarding. However, the conditions were a bit sketchy, as Dreyzehner would soon find out.

Farmers, town officials disagree

It wasn’t so much that a police officer was brought in to close the Abingdon Farmers Market so the town could set up for its Sleepy Hollow Halloween party on Saturday as it was that the town told vendors they had to close early without discussion.
“It did seem very strange to order vendors from a farmers market,” said David King, a member of the market committee who has sold produce at the market since its inception.

Former chief has bond hearing

Former Damascus Police Chief Tony Richardson tapped his foot while his two Roanoke-based lawyers, Melissa Friedman and Anthony Anderson, spoke on either side of him before his bond hearing last Wednesday.
His bond was increased from $20,000 to $200,000. His parents put up one parcel of land in Grayson County and two parcels of land in Marion, where he and his parents now live, to secure the bond.
