Cox, a 2003 graduate of Fort Chiswell High School, is the new legislative assistant for state Del. Anne Crockett-Stark, R-Wytheville.

A prosecutor filed a motion Monday to revoke bond on a man arrested twice in 27 hours, then released both times on bond, in alcohol-related incidents—one of which left a Virginia State Trooper seriously injured.
Smyth County Commonwealth’s Attorney Roy Evans is seeking to revoke the bond of Barry Dean Marshall II, 32, of 18042 Black Hollow Road, Abingdon, and send him back to jail.

Former Saltville resident dies in Iraq

The Department of Defense announced in a press release Monday that 35-year-old Staff Sgt. Chad A. Barrett of Saltville died Feb. 2 in Mosul, Iraq, as a result of a non-combat related incident. He was based out of Fort Carson, Colo., with the 64th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. According to the Defense Department, the incident is under investigation.
