Singing with the angelsA devoted husband, loving father, dedicated Christian, gifted musician and friend to all are how people remember Roger K. Rich. The 64-year-old Rural Retreat resident died unexpectedly Sunday morning at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Monkeys danced down the aisles, fish floated across the stage, an endearing elephant sat on his nest and the Cat in the Hat created mischief throughout it all.
A major highway was closed near Marion Wednesday in both directions for much of the day after a southbound log truck overturned at 10:50 a.m. in the vicinity of 1585 Highway Sixteen near the Route 712 intersection.

Several campus organizations are teaming up this weekend to work on ways to build bridges, become better leaders and make a better world.
A community organizing workshop conference, sponsored by Emory & Henry College’s Progressive Student Alliance, the Bonner Scholars program, the Dean of Students Office and the Appalachian Center for Community Service, is scheduled for Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.
The county’s League of Women Voters is planning three candidate forums for April. Candidates for mayoral and town council positions in Abingdon, Damascus and Glade Spring will be at each forum to answer questions, state their views on issues and meet voters.
There are no tax increases planned for the coming year.
Senior Olympics accepts ages 50 and up.
