Ecumenical Faith in Action has been helping feed and clothe families for years, but as of late more and more people have been asking for help.
With the economy making it harder on everyone,  Faith in Action Executive Director Kathi Lowe said the organization needs more space to keep up with the demand.
“It’s the impossible, but we’re trying anyway,” she said.

Jennifer Wade moved from South Boston, Va., in May with nothing, no job, no car, no driver’s license and in desperate need of a root canal.
The 26-year-old said she called around to churches and organizations, looking for help. She found Ecumenical Faith in Action.
That group gave the mother of two a dresser, food, gas money, help paying for the root canal - and now, soon, a Christmas.
If it weren’t for the “shopping” she and her 7-year-old daughter got to do at St. John Lutheran Church in Abingdon last Wednesday, there wouldn’t have been a Christmas.
“I can’t afford to get presents this year,” she said.

Katherine Rose, driving up Main Street in Abingdon one night not long ago, was struck by how nice it looked.
“There were cars on both sides of the street and lights from Zazzy’Z, Willa Jacks, Wines of Distinction and The Tavern,” she said. “It looked vibrant and it looks like we’re getting more of a walking district.”
Then again, she said, she’s trying to be optimistic during tough times.
