There will be a town council meeting in Rural Retreat at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2009.  It will be held at the Rural Retreat Town Hall.

I have been attending some of these meetings.  I have found that few, if any others, attend these meetings.  More people are interested in attending ballgames, movies, etc., than being involved in their local government.

Anyone who has access to this website has the access to the Town of Rural Retreat website.  Go onto the website and read the minutes of past meetings.  You will find that there has been discussion of hiring an assistant town manager for Rural Retreat, various sidewalk projects are planned for the town, updates on area water projects, etc.

There is a vacancy on the Rural Retreat Planning Commission that may be filled tonight.  In the September 8 minutes, there is mention that Allan West is interested in the vacancy.  Rural Retreat Town Council Member Keith Crigger stated that his wife was also interested in the position.  Personally, I do not have anything against Mrs. Crigger, but I think that someone other than a family member should be appointed to the position.  If you know of anyone that might be interested or if you may be interested, please attend tonight’s meeting.

I do not know if I will be able to attend this meeting tonight, because I have two meetings scheduled at the same time.  However, I encourage each and every one of you to attend this meeting.

Even though you may not be a town resident, you may want to attend.  In Saturday’s paper, legal notices were published about a public hearing on November 10 for citizen input on grant applications for the depot and the walkway/bikeway projects.  Since grants are funded by federal taxpayers YOU and You!), you still have an interest in these projects.

Attend and voice your opinion!

I hope the event is a big draw.  People should care enough to be involved in their family’s future.
